Advanced Academy

Looking for an Oasis in the Desert of Caring for Others?

OCA was excited to offer an Advanced Academy May 8-10, 2024.

This 3-day, 2-night Advanced Chaplain Academy incorporated education, inspiration, personal space for reflection, large and small group discussion and fellowship time so that each Chaplain had an opportunity to leave refreshed, connected and equipped. Training was targeted to active First Responder Chaplains who have been serving as a Chaplain for 2 years and have completed the OCA Basic Academy or introductory Chaplain training.

We named this event “Growing in Health and Preparedness”. Through large and small group sessions, this academy provided attendees with tools to grow as a Chaplain, as well as, competently support the First Responders that they serve.

Topics included:
○ Chaplain skills in response to Moral Injury
○ Healing and Hope beyond Shame
○ Living with Grief and Loss
○ Compassion Fatigue

Leading us through this experience was Therapist, Nadine Dody, MA, MFT, LPC, Dr Kenneth Logan PSY.D, Dr Richard Shaw DMFT, LMFT and Pastor Jake Schwein, BS, MA. (See faculty bios here.)
